Quick tutorial videos to help students navigate for research
Recently, I've discovered a HUGE time saving practice for teaching: video tutorials. I've created a few VERY short videos for students to reference for basic technical skills. Here are some that I've made recently:
How to set up a Google Hangout session for team meetings:
How to create an outline and insert internal oral citations into a speech:
How to search for database sources on school website and find MLA citations:
I posted these videos on my Canvas calendar, sent them in a Canvas message, and sent them out on Remind messages. That way students (and parents!) can easily find them. When I copy my course next term, the video links are still there on the calendar right when they'll need them.
Huge benefit: when a student asks a question that I've covered in the video, I send them back to the video. It saves me TONS of time not having to explain simple concepts over and over again. Plus, I have MORE time for teaching in real time.
