Technology is a powerful tool that can empower the voices of all your learners and flatten your classroom!
If you are you on Twitter, chances are you have seen the hashtag #FlipGridFever running rampant across your feed. Classrooms across the globe are utilizing this new tool to increase student voice and foster relationships inside and outside of their classrooms.
So what exactly is FlipGrid?

A free account allows you to create one grid.
Then, you can post multiple topics on one grid. A topic could be a question you pose, a reflection or a response to a lesson.

Teachers can share the topic with their students through a classroom website, Google Classroom or through email. Students open the link and click the green “respond” button. After accepting the video and microphone from their device, recording is easy! Their video is then posted to the topic page.
Another feature I love is the reply tool. Students can view classmates' videos and reply with written or video feedback!
Four Reasons to Love FlipGrid
1. Student Voice
- Diverse classrooms require a menu of options to maximize student voice. FlipGrid allows for quieter voices to be amplified by giving them the time and privacy to process their thinking and then share with the world!
2. Student Engagement
- Not only are students excited to share their ideas vocally, but the stickers also make learning fun! Align their sticker choice with a purpose (like symbolism in a book?!) or have them add their favorite just for fun!
3. Flattening Classrooms
- FlipGrid is a powerful tool to use in one classroom, but it also holds the capability of local or global collaboration. Partner with another classroom in district, in a different level, or in a different state by simply sharing the link and having students reply to one another on a topic!
4. Authentic Digital Citizenship Lessons
- Tech tools open the doors for authentic learning. Check out these tools I have developed to help coach eager students on how to post and reply to a FlipGrid!
I’d love to hear how you are amplifying student voice and flattening your classroom! Do you already use FlipGrid? If so, how are you maximizing its capabilities?
